I Took a 70-Year-Old Camera to Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary

To celebrate Disneylands 70th anniversary I thought it would be fun to capture it with a 70 year old camera on 7 rolls of film!

In 1955, Disneyland opened its doors for the very first time. Hollywood stars, singers, and Walt’s closest friends arrived in droves to what was once an orchard transformed into the most magical place on earth. Additionally, during this period, the Rollieflex was one of the major players in the professional camera market. Now, 70 years later, these two pieces of history were united in a passion project that consumed 7 rolls of film and gave me a minor sunburn (gotta remember to bring sunscreen next time).

We started off on Main Street USA and loaded up a roll of Kodak Gold 200. I wanted to capture some of the 70th anniversary decorations that were out as well as capture some scenes that may have been seen on opening day:

I really enjoy how Kodak Gold 200 rendered the colors of Main Street USA!

Coming up next, Frontier Land! When deciding what film to use I knew that there were a lot of greens and blues because of the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer’s island. With this in mind I looks through all of the film that I had on hand and noticed a roll of Harman Phoenix 200. I had never shot Phoenix 200 before, but from what I have seen I knew that it had a unique look that I felt would shine in Frontier land!

After finishing the roll of Phoenix 200 I was making my way to Galaxies Edge, but before I could make it the Mark Twain paddle boat made an appearance so I panic loaded a roll of Kodak Gold 200 and snapped a few shots before moving on to Galaxies Edge.

Moving on to Galaxies Edge I finished the roll of Kodak Gold 200 and shot two rolls of Kodak Tri-X 400. Unfortunately, I under developed the two rolls of Tri-X, but it did give the images a dark and mysterious feel which is kind of fitting for the Star Wars universe!

After Galaxies Edge I made my way past New Orleans square and made my way to adventure land to ride Jungle Cruise with a roll of Kodak Gold:

After Jungle Cruise it was time to load a roll of Cinestill 400d. I really enjoyed how this film looked! I think it might be one of my new favorite film stocks!

To finish the day it was time to go back to old reliable Kodak Gold 200 and capture the magic of ToonTown. I think that ToonTown was designed with Kodak Gold in mind!

Thanks for taking a look! If you enjoyed this please let me know!
